Autumn Light 03:00
Hail to the autumn light Hail to the autumn night How I live for your gentle respite And the long slow death of the year Summer is over and autumn is come The sun now gentle, her strength fading long She sheds her light on homestead and tree And bears her burden to shadowed reprieve The wind whispers a soothing harmony Amid red leaves that shed to the time Of some hidden rhythm deep inside the earth That bears us down and into rebirth Hail to the autumn light Hail to the autumn night How I live for your gentle respite And the long slow death of the year I love the shadows of rustling tree leaves I love the soothing scent of cold air shifting I love the long nights borne round the home fire And the arms of my lover that stoke my desire I love the cool tang of the earth on my feet I love the storm clouds that brood without conceit I love the bird song as life ekes its last The days grow shorter, the moon reclaims his task Hail to the autumn light Hail to the autumn night How I live for your gentle respite And the long slow death of the year

Harvest Tide 04:27
The scarecrow has done his job well The tide of harvest has begun All heavy and rich and gold But beware the cold to come, to come Yes, we’ve work ahead To race the cold wind’s call, its call To fight off the rats and the thieves To take our year’s return Singing hail, hail, hail, hail Now we’re all rejoicing The harvest it is done Slaughter some animals Aye we’ll bless our holy haul, we shall Dear Frey and Freya Dear Eir and Idunn Dear Thorr and Jord Lady Sif bless us this harvest’s good Singing hail, hail, hail, hail Well winter, it is coming You better rug up my dears, my dears It’ll gnaw at you like a wolf It’ll sharpen your fears You know it will be hard Some will not survive, survive But have hope to bear past Yule Into Easter’s light… Singing hail, hail, hail, hail

Hypothermia 03:19
Cold through my spirit Losing my strength Dissolving in silence Ice in my marrow Frost on my breath Heart fades to stillness In wintery death
6.
Winter Oath 06:31
As long as my heart beats As long as my blood flows As long as my lungs breathe The ice-wind from my soul: I’ll keep on living I’ll keep on dreaming As long as my heart beats And spills life through my veins As long as hope I keep, To endure frostbite’s claim: I’ll keep on living I’ll keep on dreaming I’ll keep on living Through death and loss The clutching frost Through cruelty’s costs I’ll keep on living Through veils of pain The hail-seed grain Through black ice bane: As long as my heart beats
7.
Spring Oath 06:17
I’ve been buried beneath ice and snow My bark is cracked from the cold My limbs are naked in the air My leaves rot in the earth below Winter has taken my strength away I’m starved for light in these bitter days I try not to forget My hard armour hides a holy flame It rises up from in the earth It rides outstretched limbs to the sun Winter has taken my strength away I’m starved for light in these bitter days Winter has taken my strength away I’m starved for the solace of better days But I’m going to keep on living Keep on reaching to the sun I’m swearing my spring oath To live as though my life has just begun
8.
The Thaw 03:41
Quickening Quickening Lost in cold sleep Now I awake Quickening Quickening I’ve overslept my dear But better late than never Ice has closed my veins Snow has drowned my face Cold winds pierce my skin Avalanches gnaw my flesh Quickening Quickening Nightmares are over Be healed by the sun Quickening Quickening Just keep on breathing Winter’s course is run Hope has come to my life again Things will turn to green Nothing lasts forever How can anything be the same? Hold on for long enough You’ll see this is the truth of things In the end you’ll find yourself Made holy, by defying your suffering
9.
Here we hide I’ll keep you safe Until the snow melts away You just rest You need your strength Folks’ll need you When it comes your day You know I love you I always will I cannot help myself To love you is to be myself Here we hide I’ll keep you warm Wait until the trees bloom again You just sleep Heal your wounds Folks’ll need you When dawn lights your way You know I love you I always will I cannot help myself To love you is to be myself *** I hear the call of the land her blood is quickening rivers will run again their ways their beds woken from frozen sleep oh my darling what sacrifice you’ve made for me to live I will gain my strength and ride on forth to reveal my bounty and if I am not for eternity at least for a time I may be – oh my love, you look so pale, while life bursts all around All your strength gone to preserve the spark Now so weak and wan What a terrible sacrifice You’ve made to see me through I will make sure it was not in vain For the land will live again soon! And if I am not for eternity At least for a time, I may be – Free *** Do you know the myth Of the eternal return? Recurring dreams of Wyrd’s worldly workings Round the circle We do whirl Round the spiral weaves A story of turning love Carries me away from you And back again Our love barely born And death it strikes so sudden But we will carry on Around the Endless yew-tree column The eternal dance Of winter facing summer...

about

This, the debut album of Weather Veins, is a voyage into the seasons of the spirit.

There is a fourfold circularity in nature. This fourfold constellation is reflected in the human psyche. We are called on by the breath that inspires all things to walk this circle, to steep ourselves in the labyrinths of Mystery and Self.

Only through this blind art is true healing known.
